ARRIVAL CAFE
LA TROBE UNIVERSITY, BUNDOORA
Arrival Cafe is a 5.5M x 3.4M modular brass box, located in the main forecourt of La Trobe University. The design of Arrival Cafe was influenced by the University's brief for a tenancy that could be relocated when required. The current location of the cafe, between two existing columns and an overhead beam, provided constraints on ceiling heights and services locations, as well as cladding materials and internal fixtures/fittings.
The small internal area of the cafe (18m²) and limited power supply meant the equipment election had to be low in wattage but effective in output. The brass box was pre fabricated off site and transported using a crane truck to the university where it was lifted off the vehicle and 'slid' into place beneath the existing overhead canopy.
Arrival Cafe was designed, documented and built within 3 months.
